Scillato

The origins of Scillato are related to the abundance of water that was used for the creation of several mills: the inhabited center developed around them. A mill is already mentioned in a document dated 1156 and the name of the village (Xillatum) appears in some documents at the end of the 12th Century. However, some historians have supposed a more ancient origin, talking about Athenians settlers, arrived in Sicily right after the destruction of the city of Troy and settled in these hills.

Scillato has always been a small country village without significant experiences during the history, except for the different nobles who owned it, following the events that took place in Sicily.
