Bevaio della SS. TrinitÃ
Bevaio della SS. TrinitÃ
The valley between the Guglia hill and the Ventimiglia Castle, on the northern side shows the remarkable work "Bevaio della SS. Trinità ", built by the Marquis Simone Ventimiglia. The water source, built on a rectangular base of 20 meters length with two stone fountains at the sides, has four holes which pour the water in elegant sandstone coups that later will fill the central tank. A document, found in parish archive and dated 23 Gennuary 1586 - 31 May 1587, informs that Geraci University paid the Neapolitan sculptor Pietro de Toczo to realise a civic water source.
The front with crenellated frame (n.18), which it elevates over the tympanum, forms an order with the two pyramidal summit of the fountain. On every pyramid face is located a coat of arms with three horizontal stripes and three stars under them. Certainly the coat of arms represents the "three Norman shires with the three stars in place of the three original flowers". The left side is sided by floral decorations, while the right one by a flowerpot. The original structure was higher than nowadays.
From a very reliable popular source, results that the structure was lowered during fascism to make it functional for cattle watering.
Inside a plaster rectangular frame is located the coat of arms of the Ventimiglia family, portraying a rampant lion holding a sword in its forelegs, while the hind legs are covered by a helmet.
Between the water source and the castle there was a little church, called "Trinity church", which had a plate with an inscription: "ROGERIUS DE BARNAVILLA, ASSENTIENTE ELIUSA UXORE DEDIT IN TERRITORIO GIRACII IN SICILIA ECCLESIAM SANCTAE TRINITATIS CUN TERRIS VINCIS ET SEX VILLANIS".
Nowadays this church no longer exists and in its place rise the "Villetta Comunale".
Above, between the pine trees, at the foot of the castle, can be found a meeting place for young people. Relaxing and recreative place for an always changing town, which allows its younger inhabitants a good quality life.
