Geraci Siculo

The town name comes from the greek "Jerax", vulture, and it?s referred to its ancient origin as a fortified and impenetrable fortress. The ancient greek, in fact, established here a settlement around 550 b.C.

In the 9th century the arab conquest didn't remove every trace of byzantine tradition. After the arrival of the Normans, in 1072, Geraci became the capital city of the homonymous county.

In 1252, due to the female offspring, the shire passed to Ventimiglia family, with which Geraci had bound its destinity since then. While visiting Geraci monuments it is possible to discover the history of a very important economic and political center, which deeply influenced Madonie history throughout centuries.
