The path leading to the monumental trees is short, but very intense. Along the way, three magnificent specimens majestically soar: an oak, a maple and a mountain sycamore. These trees have many hundreds of years, several meters in diameter and are more than twenty meters high.

The trail starts just near Hotel Pomieri entrance. These three monumental trees specimens, located at about 1300 meters above sea level, are inside Petralia Sottana territory, in a forest of oaks and hollies and where it is common to see considerable size trees.
The first specimen you meet is the majestic Pomieri oak, with an estimated age of around 600 years and a height of about 22 meters. It has a sturdy trunk of about 7 meters in circumference; the stem is divided, at two meters above the ground, in four large branches, the largest of which reaches a circumference of 4 meters. What appears curious is the arrangement of the branches, actually in the form of a candelabrum, whose elements support a broad and rounded crown and with a projection surface of about 450 square meters.
Immediately, an exemplar of Field Maple follows, whose estimated age is about 500 years. This maple is 15 meters high has a sturdy trunk that reaches a circumference of 4.20 meters at 1.30 meters from the ground. The trunk is more developed at its base due to an enlargement caused by some growths of bacterial origin. At about 2 meters above the ground it is divided into several large branches supporting a rounded shape crown, whose projection covers an area of about 200 square meters.
The last specimen of the trail is represented by the mountain maple of Passo Canale. Its estimated age is about 400 years. Its base circumference reaches 6 meters in length and its trunk is characterized by the presence of a deep cavity due, presumably, to a lightning, and then accentuated by "caries" mushrooms intense action, which degenerates the defenceless wood. The crown is irregular, and casts on the ground a shadow of approximately 300 square meters.
