552 - Sentiero Battaglietta - Piano Sempria

This trail begins in Campo Battaglia ring road, in Battaglietta locality at 1630 mt of elevation, where the parking area ends, midway of the curve. You have to take a dirt track that crosses uphill all the great Battaglietta vale and from which, with a brief detour, you can see the sinkhole, in madonita dialect "zubbiu". At the end of the valley the trail starts to climb with a series of hairpins, and it comes to a cliff just before entering the beech forest and arrives to a crossroads. To the right you can take the trails to Monte Ferro and Vallone di Zottafonda and proceeding to the left after a short stretch you will enter the beech forest: on the right you can see a very nice secular maple specimen. The path then proceeds in continuous ascent among beech trees, small clearings and small sinkholes and reaches the Valle Chiusa entrance. As you go up in altitude you will meet imposing oaks, gigantic chestnut, soaring Turkey oaks, majestic oak and, in the undergrowth, Cysts and Broom, Ferns and Heathers, Holly and Hollies. Immersed in this magnificent environment you proceed until you reach a green glade dominated by considerable size oaks, many maples and beeches: Piano Sempria (1,310 meters above sea level) with the nearby Crispi shelter, owned by the Club Alpino Siciliano.
