On Campofelice di Roccella beach, nearby Roccella stream, it is located a castle built by Arabs on the ruins of a pre-existent tower, recently restored. From this point is it possible to admire a rare natural phenomenon: the green ray. It is an optical effect of the sunlight refraction by the atmosphere during sunset, when solar rays gets broken down, like in a prism, by crossing a thicker layer of air, and green colour is clearly distinguished due to the contrast with the orange sky. This phenomenon inspired one of Jules Verne novel (The green ray, 1882) and an Eric Rohmer movie (The green ray, 1986)
