Il porto di Termini Imerese
Il porto di Termini Imerese
The Port of Termini Imerese originated in Roman times and in 1976 some excavations unearthed the remains of the ancient structures. In the nineteenth century the port was one of the most active of the island's northern coast; it was dedicated especially for catching bluefish and used as a shipyard. It recorded annual export movements of more than 50 thousand tons of grain, pulses, oil, sulfur, pasta. The pier was enlarged over the centuries until it reached a length of 1400 meters. Currently the port of Termini Imerese is very active owing to its favorable geographical location, central to the highway that goes towards the interior provinces of Sicily, and also thanks to the presence of industry and a flourishing agriculture.
The services offered within the port are those of pilotage, mooring and towing; there are sites for the repair of small ships and fishing tourism activities. Near the harbor there is also the beach of Termini Imerese.
