The vegetation strip at the top of Castelbuono mountain territory varies from chestnut (600 / 900m) to holm, from oaks (900 / 1200m) to hollies, from oaks centenary (1200 / 1400m), to beech (oltre1400m). The trail starting from Piano Sempria at Crispi shelter, along the slopes of Mount Ferro and reaches Piano Pomo where, between beeches, maples and oaks, it?s possible to admire the Giant Hollies, exemplars unique in the world, 15 metres high. Through an easily walkable paved road inside the State forest immerses us in a magical and beautiful atmosphere. The first trees that visitors will meet (true nature monuments) are the ancient oaks of more than 800 years that accompany them for another 300m walk. After a flat stretch you get to Piano Pomo. A stop at the forestal thatched hut, the Etna view and still 300m to admire the giant hollies, unique site in Sicily: this are evergreen plants high from 20 to 25 m, typical for their red berries that ripen in winter.
