Caltavuturo

According to many researchers, the name and the origins of the town date back to the Arab domination (the name probably derives from the arab word Qalat Ab' l-Thawr, which means Ab' Thawr stronghold, the muslim leader who conquered the town). During Norman domination, the village belonged to Count Ruggero family; then under the Swabian domination it was granted to the Ventimiglia family, then to many other noble families until XVI century.

In 1550 some inhabitants transferred outside the village walls, under the rocky terrace of Terravecchia, the original core of the village.
