The description, albeit brief, of Madonie’s Park vegetation, can not be said exhausted without a necessary side note on the endemic flora and the rare plants that thrive in this amazing green universe.
It is a rich and precious floral heritage that include exclusive species, in addition to some rarities at regional and national levels.
Some of these plants beautify further with their inflorescences the already charming madonita landscape.
Among the endemic and rare plants present here, in addition to the already mentioned cupani broom, stands the Nebrodi Astragolo, with its beautiful dosserets, located in extreme habitats above 1,200 mt. height.
The Nebrodi Pansy with its beautiful purple inflorescences paints Pizzo Carbonara slopes.
The peony with its beautiful red or white flowers grows in this mountain plain from March to June.
And yet the Sicilian Linen (Stipa Sicula), a Monte Quacella unique exclusivity, renowned for its willowy arista; the rare and beautiful Stellina di Gussone (gussonei Woodruff) with its pink infioriture, which is found in high altitude dolomitic-limestone habitats;The Sicilian Aubrieta (deltoid Aubriet) with its small pink-purple inflorescences, one of the most rare Sicilian endemic specimens inside the Madonie area; the Bivona-Bernardi clover (Trifolium bivonae), a Sicilian endemic specimen with its beautifull red inflorescence; the “Spillone dei Nebrodi” (Armeria nebrodensis), the snowy Cardoon (Ptilostemon niveus) rare Sicilian-Calabrian specimens. The Astro Sorrentino (Sorrentine Aster), a Composita fine example, only recently discovered in Polizzi and Castellana and Petralia areas.
