Chiesa Madre - Resuttano
Chiesa Madre - Resuttano
Built in the 18th Century on a previous building of the 16th Century, consists in three aisles.
The main aisle
On the presbitery we can see the main altar, made of polychromatic marbles, commissioned by the Archibishop Stella and finished only in 1921. Above the altar, in a small recess, there is the wooden statue of the Virgin Mother from the XVIII Century.
In the middle of the aisle, on the left side, near a pillar, we can see the wooden pulpit from the 18th ? 19th Century, with a beautiful wooden staircase, made from the countryman Gandolfo Di Vita (20th Century). In the middle of the pulpit we can also see an emblem with the sign "Viro costanti", the motto bestowed by Carlo V to Federico di Napoli for the service given during the earthquake in stare 1726.
Right side aisle
It?s characterized by the presence of the gorgeous Chapel of the Holy Crucifix, that has a wooden structure on the wall at the end where there is a shrine with the dead Christ. In the same structure there is another wooden Crucifix from the XVII Century. The side walls and the vault are entirely decorated with oil paintings from on the right wall, a scene from the Passion; on the left one, the representation of the purification of the world from sins through Christ?s blood; on the vault, several different scenes.
On the right side, almost halfway of the aisle, there are the wooden altar with golden decorations and the wooden statue of St. Joseph, dated late 18th Century.
Left side aisle
At the beginning of the aisle, there is the stone baptistery, and along the walls there are a lot of paintings aligned, all from unknown artists except for the one painted by Filippone in 1740.
The aisle ends with the Chapel of the Holy Sacrament.
Inside the sacristy, among the others, we can also admire the painting representing the famous St. Francis of Assisi, probably made by the Cripple of Gangi, in the 17th Century.
